In Cameroon they eat Guinea Pigs. Steamed. In banana leaves. Victoria Coy knows because when she was there working with women and Pygmies she had 600 of the little bone-in breeders in her apartment.

The funny thing was, not only did people eat Guinea Pigs but the Guinea Pigs ate Guinea Pigs too. Not steamed in banana leaves, just on the floor of Victoria’s apartment.

Back home in New Orleans, despite what she might say, Victoria is not really a horse breeder but she does have about the most varied and interesting life of anyone in town – and that’s saying something – from political activism to singing country music. Really well.

Maggie Koerner is one of New Orleans’ finest singer songwriters. She fronts her own eponymous band and has a new record out, containing the literally show-stopping song Birds that she sings on today’s Happy Hour. Andrew Duhon finishes off 2016 with a change from what he calls his usual sad bastard songs with a moving paean to the permanence of love. Yes, you read that correctly. Not a heart break tale about the fleeting nature of love but an anthem to the eternity of it all. It’s literally a great note to usher out 2016.
