It’s New Orleans: Happy Hour

Hosted ByGrant Morris & Andrew Duhon

HAPPY HOUR is a cocktail-fueled 60 minutes of random conversation with folks who have nothing in common, other than being New Orleanians in a bar. Featuring extraordinary New Orleans musicians playing live, host Grant Morris and sidekick deluxe Andrew Duhon.

We all write ourselves reminders. On a scrap of paper, on our phone, some of us write on our hands. Professor T R Johnson is the director of the Writing Program at Tulane University.

It’s mildly surprising to find out at the beginning of this conversation that TR writes on his hand. If you can stick it out till the end of this show when TR’s phone alerts him of his next reminder, it’s so bizarre, so entirely unexpected, and yet so perfectly linked to everything that has gone before, you’ll think we wrote and planned this whole show.

The premise of the Happy Hour podcast is, when you walk into a bar in New Orleans you never know what amazing stories the person sitting next to you might have. Although we have been successfully proving this theory almost every week for 4 years, we’ve never had stories quite like the ones on this show. Especially from Valerie Sassyfrass.

Okay, fair enough, to look at Valerie you might not be surprised that she’s a little eccentric, but there’s no way you were expecting this. And if you think Valerie’s stories are unique, wait till you hear her music.

Mary Matthews grew up playing sports Uptown with the Carrollton Boosters. Her adult job is only a short bike ride away – she doesn’t drive anywhere – but it took her a circumnavigation of the globe and a whole other language to get there. “There” is the Alliance Francaise and if you can’t get enough of Mary’s sexy French accented NOLAngauge, check out her radio show.

What comes to mind when you hear the name “A.J.”? A guy who’s come over to fix your washing machine? Or singer-song-writer A.J. (Don’t Fight The Feeling)Duhon?

A.J.

It’s amazing what difference a couple of letters can make in how you feel about yourself. And apparently Lancanian psychoanalysis can shake you up even more with just a few words. And all this isn’t even after all that many drinks. In the grand scheme of things.
